I have clicked several times on the Florinef calculator but do not have a reply. Can you help – my dog weighs 51 pounds?

Sorry about that — I am fixing the calculator as we speak. The recommended dose is .005 – .01 mgs per 1 lbs of bodyweight, so you’re looking at about 0.255 mg to 0.51 mg to start.

Thanks for the advice- I have been advised by the vet to start off with one and a quarter tablets twice a day. (1 mg tablets). This would be 5 times higher than the highest dose you quote. How can there be such a discrepancy?

          Marilyn,

I’m not sure. The recommended dose is 0.1 mg/10 lbs for Florinef = 0.5 mgs of Florinef per day for a 50lb dog to start. The dose you are being recommended is just over two times the highest recommended dose. There must be a reason — ask your vet (I would also be interested to know why :) ). I’m going to guess it had something to do with your dog’s electrolyte levels.

Here’s a link to the dosage on another site (it states 0.009 per pound, which rounds up to 0.01): http://www.1800petmeds.com/Fludrocortisone-prod10417.html

          Best,
